In addition to traditional chiropractic services, Victoria chiropractor Dr. Mark Strudwick does extensive work with soft tissue injuries including: myofascial release, instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization, kinesiology taping, and cold laser therapy.
Non-invasive, pain-free, light-based therapy that uses red and infrared light to target inflamed, injured and diseased tissues. Laser acts to stimulate the cells responsible for healing and results in: repair and regeneration of local blood supply, remodeling of collagen (a component of scar tissue), repair of damaged muscle fibers, a reduction of inflammation to the damaged area, new cartilage production and activation of bone-building cells. The result of all the above is that compared to traditional treatment, patients recover from musculoskeletal and peripheral nerve injuries with less scar tissue, accelerated cell regeneration and improved function.
Just like the concrete foundation is that which a house relies upon for stability, so are our feet to us: the foundation upon which our bodies rely. Irregularities in foot mechanics and gait can lead to knee, hip and back pain due to rotational forces transmitted into the pelvis and resulting in compensation particularly in the lumbar spine and then progressing upwards. While chiropractic adjustments can provide relief, this is only short-term and the root cause must be addressed. If left untreated, long-term compensation leads to structural changes in adjacent soft tissues (muscles and ligaments) and will eventually lead to joint degeneration. Dr. Strudwick can assess your gait and examine mobility in your feet to determine the type of orthotic for you. From a foam impression of your feet, certified pedorthist Alex Paquin of http://peakorthotics.com/ makes a laser-scanned 3-D image of each foot that the orthotics are then milled from. We work with Peak Orthotics because of the unique qualities of the orthotic that have a rehabilitative function and help to strengthen the feet as they support them. Since they area based in Comox, the original order arrives in about a week and if any modifications need to be done the turn-around time is minimal.
Scoliosis is an abnormal lateral curvature of the spine. The extent of it is highly variable, so its presence is by no means of great concern if it is mild. If it is more pronounced, however, and/or is present in a child, it needs to be addressed.
A simple physical exam can be performed to determine if a scoliosis is present. X-ray is needed, however, to determine its extent and obtain a prognosis and treatment plan, where needed. Scoliosis left untreated and without rehabilitation, will hasten degeneration later in life and affect one’s activities of daily living. If you have a suspicion of a scoliosis in yourself or loved-one don’t hesitate to call for a consultation.
Some people learn the hard way that if they don’t practice good spinal hygiene, they are more likely to have recurrences of their problem and suffer further downtime and lost time and money. For those I often recommend coming in periodically to have a “tune up” and just have their spine assessed and adjusted where indicated in an effort to prevent future problems. Unfortunately, pain is the last thing to come on, and the first to leave, therefore we can have dysfunction in our spine and are not aware of it until we do something unassuming, like bend over to tie a shoe and end up with back spasm and pain. For those who are more high-performance oriented, whether an athlete or musician, one must be able to complete their required task time- after-time and without injury or faulty biomechanics to achieve the best possible result. These people find that regular chiropractic care keeps them functioning and at their desired level. For more info click here

Massage therapy is an effective form of care for several types of soft tissue disorders and conditions, or, just as an aid for relaxation. Massage is effective as a stand-alone therapy or in conjunction with chiropractic care. Many patients will see one of the therapists prior to seeing me which helps to not only have them more relaxed, but loosens the muscles so that the adjustment can be easier, for both myself, and the patient. All our therapists are registered in B.C. and part of the provincial association and have completed its training and licensing requirements.
